The Kindle - Superior Reading

Amazon.com has a fantastic product called the Kindle.

At first glance, the Kindle looks like an old PDA. It has a black and white screen. I saw that and instantly dismissed it. Don't make the same mistake!

I recently had the chance to get a great deal on the Kindle 2 (Currently the Kindle 3 is the latest Kindle version). After using it, I finally see what all the chat is about! The Kindle is the best reading experience I have ever had!

When I was little I couldn't read very well. As I got older and better at it, I just didn't enjoy it. Needless to say, most of my life, I haven't been a reader. When I got my iPOD touch, I finally had a nice reading device that I would use. The problem was that when I read on my iPOD, I would only read for a few minutes at a time, then I would stop. I just couldn't get into it. After trying the Kindle I finally understand why. A screen that is back-lit is fantastic, but it tires the eyes when you are looking to read text for a period of time. I would often find myself feeling tired when trying to read on my iPOD.

The Kindle uses special screen technology called e-ink. The pages are extremely easy to read. Reading for long periods of time is extremely comfortable.

Here are some of my favorite features of the Kindle:
- Free 3G wireless (On the 3G model). This allows you to be anywhere and connect to the internet to download books! You can even open up web pages and check your email! You can do it anywhere you want, even without a local wireless network.
- Free samples of every book available for the Kindle.
- Notes, highlights, books are all synchronized online so you can review/edit your notes from your computer.
- The screen is black and white, but it is a 16 color grayscale. Meaning it can display pictures very nicely, even though it is not in color.
- The Kindle is so thin! Its total size is smaller than a paperbackbook, yet you can have thousands of books, and can instantly download
- Read PDFs

I have used my Kindle 2 to do some really cool things:
- I checked prices on Amazon.com on several products we were looking at as we were shopping. It allowed me to instantly answer the question, "Is this cheaper online?"
- I read a book during a break in a class we are taking. Then when class started up, someone mentioned a book that was really great. During my class, I grabbed a free sample of the book with my Kindle and read a little bit after class.

For someone looking for a fantastic reading device, I would definitely recommend the Kindle. It is small, the screen is super crisp, reading feels natural and very fun.
